MESSAGE FROM THE PRESIDENT

Listed below is information about the league, the board positions, and the position duites. These are copied directly from the by-laws which are located on our web-site at www.4ggba.net under the coaches corner tab.

Again, WE NEED YOUR HELP in keeping the league active. This about the girls, your daughters and grand daughters, we need you help.
Purpose of the Garland Girls Basketball Association:
Garland Girls Basketball Association (G.G.B.A.) was established as a nonprofit Organization, for the purpose of providing an opportunity for the Garland girls of 3rd, 4th, 5th, 6th, 7th, 8th, 9th, 10th, 11th, and 12th grades to accomplish the following:

a. Participation objectives:
All girls, regardless of size or athletic ability, will have the opportunity to play on a team and compete in the game of basketball. It is expected that each head coach will set as one of his or her primary objectives, the full participation and development of all girls on his or her team. Each girl will play a minimum of 6 minutes per game (regular season, and tournament games included).

b. Education objectives:
All girls will have the opportunity to learn and develop in the fundamentals of basketball. All girls will have the opportunity to learn how to cooperate and work together as a team, working toward common goals and good sportsmanship.

c. Enjoyment objectives:
All girls feel an increased confidence in themselves and the knowledge of the sport of basketball by making significant contributions to the team.
Definitions:

2. Board of Directors:
The G.G.B.A. is administered by an elected BOARD OF DIRECTORS. This board, comprised of volunteer workers, is elected at a General Meeting to be set by the board. Subcommittees, also comprised of volunteer workers, are appointed, as the Board deems necessary. The President shall appoint a nominating committee of not less than three people to seek out qualified candidates to fill positions on the Board. This committee will recommend these candidates for election. Additional candidates may be nominated from the floor. The nominating committee will be appointed at least 30 days prior to the election. The Board of Directors will be composed of the individuals holding the office:

a. Duties of Board Members:

President:
It shall be the duty of the President to preside at all meetings of the Board; enforce the constitution and by-laws; rule on questions of order; sign all official documents; co-sign all drafts drawn against the ASSOCIATION; Appoint Standing Committee and other special committees deemed necessary; perform all other Duties normally associated with the office.

Vice-President:
The Vice-President shall assume the duties of the President in the absence of the latter, shall work particularly close with the various committees; coordinate practice gym space and work with the President and Grade Rep(s) scheduling regular season games, playoffs if necessary and tournament; perform all other duties normally associated with the office.

Secretary:
The secretary shall keep a record of the proceedings of all meetings and give copies to all members of the Board; keep membership roll up to date; notify members of the board of all meetings. Perform all the other functions normally associated with the office. Minutes are to be kept in a notebook, hand or electronic, with all outgoing correspondence and brought to all board meetings. Secretary needs to fax or mail a copy of the current board to Garland Parks and Recreation Department. Board members who have been on the board 10 years are designated as "Life Time Members" and are to be notified of the regularly scheduled meetings. Keep a list of Board members addresses and phone numbers and give a copy to all board members and Life Time Members. The Life Time Members are to be listed on the bottom of the phone/address listing along with the number of years served.

Treasurer:
The Treasurer shall take charge of all funds received by the ASSOCIATION and deposit same to the account of the ASSOCIATION, in the depository approved by the Board; Pay bills approved by the Board, co-sign all drafts drawn against the ASSOCIATION; keep a Complete financial record covering receipts, expenditures and balance; submit financial reports to the league and to the Parks and Recreational Department on request; be over all fundraising and proceeds from the fundraiser; must receive all applications and monies; will provide applications to grade reps as designated; perform all duties normally associated with the office.

Player Rep:
The primary function is to be available to the players, coaches, and parents who have a problem or complaint. If you have a problem brought to your attention, you will work it out with the grade rep and coach involved. Some cases may need to be brought to the attention of the board

Grade Rep:
Either coordinate the draft for your grade (see section on drafts) or form teams by; receiving applications from the treasurer and will combine them to form Teams. This will be done first by school and then geographical location. Check all applications for correct grade and age before assigning to a team. Fee must be paid before a girl is placed on a team or participate. Be responsible for choosing coaches for all teams in your grade. You also need to approve team colors in your grade. A team staying together and moving up from a younger grade has the option to keep their color. New teams then can choose colors for their teams. Consideration should be given to school jersey color. You also need to work with your coaches on numbers so that they do not use improper numbers; numbers must be on the front and back of each jersey. You will be responsible for keeping all of your coaches informed and advised of all matters of importance (practice schedule, game schedule, meetings, fundraising etc) keep current records on all teams - applications and birth certificates should be kept together by team. Work with Vice-President on scheduling of games and tournament; Coordinate the collection of all monies, if applicable, associated with application fees; Coordinate the collection of monies for participants in the fundraisers; work with the player rep in solving any problems; Provide score keeping and time keeping; assistance at all your grade’s games and keeping each player's time in your league; work with score keeper coordinator keeping him/her notified of game scores and standings after each week’s games; work with the member at large in charge of uniforms, for ordering and distribution. Additional duties include selecting sportsmanship awards.

Scorekeeper Coordinator:
To have several trained scorekeepers available for season play; to have two at each game; after each weeks games get results of games from the Grade Rep and turn in results to the newspaper; send copy of scores and league standings to web master (if applicable) to update web site; keep a sheet on standings (win/loss record for each team) for the entire season and tournament. Coordinate with the Treasurer for monies to pay officials.

Member at Large (Awards & Trophies):
Member is to be in charge of the Awards Ceremony, scheduling the Location to be used, trophy pricing, selecting and delivery with the approval of the board and give a copy of the proposal to the Secretary. Collect names for awards from the Grade Reps in time to have awards complete for award ceremony.

Member at Large (Uniforms):
To be responsible for collecting information from the companies and the pricing of uniforms; collecting information from Grade Reps for their orders; the ordering sorting and delivery of uniforms to Grade Reps, and copies to be given to the Secretary.
